When a bearing is pressed on tight, levering at it with a screwdriver is how housings get cracked. This three-jaw puller grabs the component evenly from three sides and draws it straight off the shaft, with the load carried by a hardened forcing screw instead of your knuckles.
The jaws are chrome plated and serrated on the inner face, so they bite into a bearing race or gear rim rather than sliding off under load. A slotted rail lets you set the spread to the job, and the knurled locking nut holds that setting while you wind the screw in. The screw end takes a 3/8 in. square drive, a spanner or a hex key, so you can use a ratchet, a breaker bar or a ring spanner depending on the access you have.
